The December meeting of the Bremerton Base eBoard of United Veteran Incorporated, presided over by Base Commander Davis, covered a range of topics including administrative updates, charitable activities, financial reports, and planning for upcoming events. The meeting was attended by key officers, including the Secretary, Treasurer, Storekeeper, and Past Commander, along with other board members.

Administrative Updates

Base Secretary Bob Hickman confirmed a quorum for the meeting and summarized activities since the last meeting. Past Commander Dave Bowman requested copies of the general meeting minutes for website updates. Vice Commander Waylon Shropshire shared that he is catching up on tasks after being out of state.

Membership and Financial Reports

Treasurer Dan Inman reported a decline in membership to 47, attributing this primarily to members passing on “Eternal Patrol.” Financially, the base had a net loss of $8,958 for November, mainly due to Halloween event reimbursements. The end-of-year budget review showed a surplus of approximately $2,000 for potential donations or operational use in 2024. Efforts to collect outstanding dues continued, with reminders sent via email and traditional mail.

Charitable Activities

Significant attention was given to charitable efforts. A key success story involved assisting member Sean Bagby and his wife with medical expenses, using a long-dormant charitable fund that was reactivated through donations. This experience underscored the importance of maintaining and utilizing the base’s charitable resources, which will be revisited in early 2024.

Storekeeper and Website Updates

Storekeeper John Gardner reported a successful year in merchandise sales and plans to present a detailed annual report in January. He also announced new holiday-themed merchandise for the upcoming Christmas party. Past Commander Dave Bowman outlined plans for a website redesign to enhance functionality and historical documentation. Updates will commence after the Christmas party.

Planning for Events

Preparations for the annual Christmas party were a major focus. Key tasks included setting up tables, managing a large attendance, organizing food contributions, and ensuring accessibility. COB Dave Pittman coordinated setup logistics and confirmed a U-shaped layout for better flow. A new Bluetooth speaker system was acquired to improve audio at events and meetings.

Additionally, future projects like a February breakfast event and summer outings were discussed. The board emphasized the need for surveys to better understand members’ preferences for event venues and formats.

New Business

Commander Davis proposed expanding collaboration with the Navy League to support active-duty personnel during decommissionings and other ceremonies. Discussions also included revising the base’s involvement in local charitable activities and ensuring compliance with national organization policies to reduce reporting burdens.

Good of the Order and Final Notes

Past Commander Bowman introduced a new historian project focusing on World War II submarine veterans, encouraging board members to share the content widely. Treasurer Inman requested precise dates for members placed on Eternal Patrol to maintain accurate records.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn and preparations for the Christmas party on December 21, where the board plans to recognize new Holland Club members and foster camaraderie among attendees.
